****PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT NOTE (as of 3/21/24 @ 9pm)*****
Due to last minute surges in registration and issues with capacity and safety support, we are highly encouraging any new participants to consider joining us for one of the ceremonies (7am opening ceremony at Cesar Chavez Park, 1pm mid-day ceremony at First Congregational Church of Oakland, or 7pm closing ceremony at Maya Lin School in Alameda).
If you are a new registrant and plan to walk, it is imperative that you become clear on expectations and agreements for upholding the spirit of pilgrimage, and both watch our hourlong preparation Zoom call and read through our community expectations document here. Both links will be shared in your registration confirmation.
Thank you for these considerations!
-------------
We welcome you to join us in a prayerful journey of interfaith solidarity with our Palestinian siblings through the
East Bay Interfaith Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage. This effort is part of the global movement of Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimages happening in 18 countries and 145 cities. You can read more info about the movement
here.
Collectively, we will walk for 22 miles, the distance from Gaza City to Rafah (either all or in sections), walking with millions who have been displaced, fleeing their homes amid the ongoing violence.
The East Bay- Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage will take place on
March 23rd, 2024. It will
begin at 7:00 AM in Berkeley and
end at 7:00pm in Alameda, with various stops along the way. Our route, subject to minor change, may be viewed
here.
Participants are welcome to join us as they are able for the entire walk, for legs of the walk, or even just to participate in our various prayer stops along our route.
On Wednesday, we had a Zoom call for all participants to provide spiritual grounding and preparation for our event. All participants must watch the recording before walking. The Zoom link will be provided in the confirmation for sign up.
Please be assured that this will be a safe, peaceful, and inclusive activity. All walkers should check out
these community expectations before choosing to walk, to understand the tone and format of our event.
Thank you for walking with us!
