WHO:
7th-12th grade teachers from all content areas

WHAT:
Participate in a two-week Summer Writing Academy focused on improving your knowledge and teaching of argument writing.
• Week One: Work with Teacher Leaders from the San Joaquin Valley Writing Project and Writing Instructors from Porterville College to examine what it means to compose arguments in your discipline and how to teach students to compose arguments in meaningful ways
• Week Two: Together with SJVWP Teacher Leaders, lead writing workshops for Porterville-area students each morning. In the afternoon, de-brief the morning and plan the next day’s instruction.

WHEN:
Monday-Thursday July 22-July 25 & July 29-Aug. 1 • 9:00-4:00 each day

WHERE:
Porterville College: Student Center Conference Room

WHY:
• Deepen your understanding of argument writing in your discipline
• Learn specific ways to improve your students as writers
• Participate in professional development led by local teachers who have expertise in teaching writing
• Participating teachers who attend all sessions will (1) earn a $200 stipend AND (2) be eligible to purchase 3.0 graduate units from Fresno State
