INTRODUCTIONQPS prides itself by offering enhanced learning opportunities for all students. The Snowsports Programme is part of our Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) and is one of these learning experiences.
Your annual parent contribution covers the cost of this activity for your child. Parent/caregiver financial contributions are essential for QPS to be able to provide this activity to students. Contributions can be made via cash, eftpos or cheque at the school office, or by automatic payment to Queenstown Primary School’s bank account 03 0675 032914600 referencing your child’s name.

There are two payment components to the programme:1) The skiing and snowboarding programme is included in your parent contribution. This includes transport to and from Coronet Peak, rental equipment and a 1.5 hour ski/board lesson for each of the 6 days. Please note the programme cost remains the same whether you have your own equipment or not.2) The purchase of a $100 season pass. This is payable to NZSki.
SEASON PASS PURCHASE – payable to NZSkiAll Year 3 - 8 students will participate in the QPS Snowsports Programme and will require a season pass at $100 per pass.If your child/ren has had a pass previously they do not need to be with you at the Snow Centre. If this is your first season pass purchase then your child/ren will need to be with you to have their photo taken.Passes will be processed at the NZSki Snow Centre on Duke Street from 8 May 2017. NB: There is no season pass form to be completed this year.
GENERAL INFORMATIONAll snowsports activities are at Coronet Peak. Students will have an hour and half lesson. With an instructor specifically chosen to improve students skills.
PARENT INFORMATION EVENING - Wednesday 26 July at 6pm in the staffroom.This meeting is for all our parents wishing to know about our Snowsports Programme.

WRIST GUARDSResearch has determined that wristguards can be a mitigating factor in snowboarding injuries. It is optional for snowboarders to wear wrist guards.
CELL PHONESYear 7 and 8 students participate in freeskiing sessions whereby one student in the group must have a cell phone. Cells phones are not compulsory.
PARENT HELP For the programme to be successful a significant number of parent helpers are required. A request for parent help will be sent separately to this document. Parent helpers must attend a compulsory induction to the programme regardless of having been a parent help previously due to significant changes in our systems and procedures.Parents will be required to sign an agreement outlining the Standard Operating Procedures for parent help.
PERSONAL EQUIPMENTAll students must have: Waterproof pants Waterproof jacketWaterproof gloves GogglesWarm hat Warm polypro/wool long sleeve top and long johnsHigh visibility vest Seasons passLong knee high woollen or polypro socks must be worn.QPS has a limited supply of gear available to borrow. Please discuss your child's requirements with their teacher.All students will be required to wear a helmet – these are available to borrow through the school.
INJURY AND ILLNESSIf your child misses three or more days of the programme a medical certificate will be required in order to obtain a refund, otherwise no refunds will be given.
ADDITIONAL CHARGESIf your child requires medical attention on the mountain additional charges will apply as stipulated by NZSki - charges will depend on the nature of the injury, however you will be phoned by a QPS staff member before this occurs
SCHOOL BUSESPlease note: Alternative transport arrangements will need to be made on the days of the programme as students are not able to transport their ski/boarding gear on the school buses to and from school.
