The District 1 Youth Council is a group of young people, ages 13–18, who serve as the voice of youth in the Richmond District. Council members work with local leaders to ensure young people have input on issues that affect their schools, neighborhoods, and communities. This is a formal council, not just a club or after-school program, meaning members take on real responsibilities to create positive change in their district.
During the year-long term, members receive training in leadership, community engagement, and advocacy. They identify local needs, organize events, and help shape programs and policies that support youth in District 1. Topics often include education, recreation, mental health, civic engagement, and community safety.
Applicants must be 13–18 years old and live in or attend school in San Francisco's District 1. Youth with experience in schools, community programs, or local volunteering are especially encouraged to apply. District 1 youth are invited to bring their ideas and help improve their neighborhoods.
All applicants must submit their applications by July 31st 11:59 PM. You can expect to hear back on the status of your application on August 10th. The council will begin meeting in late August.
