Thanks for your interest in becoming one of my personal care assistants. Below you will find a few more details about me, my needs, and this position.
I'm a 30-year-old male with a neuromuscular disability that causes overall muscle weakness. I have recently accepted a new position at Miami University and will be living in Oxford, Ohio. I previously worked at Miami for over 8 years and I look forward to working with and educating Miami students. I enjoy reality, drama, and adventure related TV in addition to watching Cleveland sports.
I'm currently hiring Personal Care Assistants (PCA) to assist me with daily living tasks. While the schedule is generally flexible, this position primarily supports my afternoon and overnight access needs and would work approximately two to three shifts per week. The ideal candidate would be able to meet me for approximately one hour after work (somewhere between 5 - 7 p.m.) to help me use the restroom, change my clothes, and prepare my dinner as needed. After that short hour is complete, I do not need anything again until the overnight shift.
The overnight shift generally starts around 11:30 p.m. on the weekdays or 12:30 p.m. on the weekends (Friday and Saturday night) and ends around 8 - 8:30 a.m. on the weekdays and 11:30 a.m. on the weekends. Most of the times are flexible. This shift supports my access needs related to using the restroom, getting ready for bed, rolling me over in bed if needed, getting me up in the morning, showering, dressing, and other personal care related tasks. The ideal candidate would be able to support at least two shifts per week (including the afternoon shift for each night worked).
Paid training is provided and I direct everything so no prior experience is required, just a willingness to learn. A reliable method of transportation is needed. I do have a Hoyer lift available, but it is important that the ideal candidate be able to manage the physical weight of my body. Regarding pay, I am typically able to provide approximately $125 per day worked (for both shifts). Individuals working in this capacity are classified as independent contractors and are provided a 1099 at the end of the calendar year. It is important to understand this job opportunity takes a significant level of commitment as I am relying on external assistance for my access needs and reliability and safety is of the utmost importance. In coordination with myself and others on my care team, a temporary change in schedule or time off can be arranged.
I look forward to learning a little more about you through this application.
