Dear parent/guardian,

CYP are excited to announce our Summer 2024 activity programme. The sessions are open to any young person from P6 to S3 (based on the new school year that they'll be moving into after the summer). Please note that young people must live or attend school in the McLaren High catchment area in order to participate.

Thanks to funding from Nineveh Charitable Trust, young people do not have to pay to participate in any of these sessions.

There are limited spaces available for each session, therefore we will run a sign-up window before randomly allocating spaces based on drawing names – we hope this gives everyone a fair chance of involvement. The sign-up window is open until the evening of Monday 17th June.

Young people should only sign up for sessions they are interested in – there’s no requirement to sign up for the entire block. A waiting list will be created in the event that demand exceeds availability for any given session.

MONDAY 8TH JULY – SKY STUDIOS (10:00 – 15:30)
For this trip we’ll meet at CYP and then travel by coach to Sky Studios in Livingston. After a quick introduction and tour, we’ll get to work creating and starring in our own big-screen masterpieces. If you’re camera shy, there are plenty of behind-the-scenes opportunities – directing, filming or preparing the final cut. After the chance to watch back our efforts in the cinema room, we’ll head back to CYP on the coach.

WEDNESDAY 10TH JULY – CIRCUS SKILLS (11:00 – 13:00)
The circus is coming to Callander! Join us at McLaren Leisure Centre as we welcome one of ThinkCircus’ talented circus performers. If you’ve ever fancied trying your hand at the likes of juggling, hula-hooping or plate-spinning then this is the session for you.

MONDAY 22ND JULY – ODYSSEY ADVENTURES (10:00 – 14:00)
Join us at Moray Estate (Doune) where we’ll be putting our skills to the test on an outdoor activity day. The session will include archery, bushcraft, axe-throwing and even a miniature Highland Games competition. Please note that transport to/from Moray Estate is not provided.

WEDNESDAY 24TH JULY – COOK WITH CYP (10:30 - 12:30 or 14:00 - 16:00)
Cook up a storm at CYP as we make (and eat!) a two-course meal. Young people will be allocated a place in either the morning or afternoon session – not both.

MONDAY 29TH July – PADDLE SPORTS (10:45 – 13:15)
Meet at CYP, where we’ll get changed into our wetsuits and buoyancy aids before heading out onto the River Teith with the Roll Outdoors team. With a mixture of individual and giant paddleboards on offer, it doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced paddler or if you’ve never picked up a paddle in your life – there will be something for everyone! Please note that due to the nature of the activity, participants must be confident swimmers. We’ll return to CYP at the end of the session to get changed back into dry clothes.

All activities on offer (as well as transport) have varying levels of inherent risk, including injury to participants. You acknowledge these risks by signing your young person for the session. Specific activities may require an additional consent form being completed - this will be communicated prior to the event.
All participants are expected to follow instructions provided by both CYP staff and activity providers, in order to minimise risk. This will include wearing all appropriate safety equipment (where required) and following the rules and procedures put in place by the session lead. Appropriate clothing will be also required for each session - prior to each session, you will receive an email detailing the arrangements and timings for the activity, as well as a reminder of any clothing requirements or similar.

Any young person failing to follow instructions may be asked to leave the session early and may be removed from future sessions. Sessions may be postponed or cancelled in the event of adverse weather or other external circumstances – this decision will remain at the discretion of CYP staff and activity instructors.

Given the varied nature of activities, we would request that you contact us if you have any concerns about your child’s ability to participate in any given session or about the impact of any pre-existing medical conditions (including allergies). Where appropriate, we would also recommend seeking advice from your GP.
