Company Drinks is a community space and social enterprise based in Barking and Dagenham, where we make drinks with and for each other. We work across the borough, but we are based in the old outdoor bowls club in Barking Park, we share our building and our community garden with local groups who want to test out an idea for inspiring or nourishing their community. We are thrilled to be working with the council, Sustain and local residents on a research project to help develop a Good Food Plan for Barking & Dagenham. This plan will outline how the council will work with residents and partners across Barking & Dagenham to make nourishing, culturally-appropriate, sustainable and tasty food available to everyone.
We are currently gathering evidence towards the plan. We want to understand the diversity of our local food cultures and knowledge and the local initiatives that are already building more inclusive food systems. We also want to learn about approaches in other areas that are building more nourishing, affordable and sustainable food systems.
For this initial research, we want to hear from as many local residents, businesses and enterprises as we can. Your insights and ideas will inform the vision, goals and activities of the plan.
Some of the questions we’re asking include:
> How can we build a healthier, more sustainable local food system?
> What’s needed for more inclusive, community-led food projects?
> What are the diverse food cultures of Barking & Dagenham and how can we celebrate them?
> Who are the Good Food Champions that inspire us?
> …and who is already doing great work to grow and share good food systems in Barking & Dagenham?
