SPOKEN WORD POETRY
1.Eligible to join the Contest are 10th grade junior high school (JHS) as well as 11th and 12th grade
senior high school (SHS) students of ANY STRAND within the National Capital Region (NCR) public
2.Participants should be officially endorsed by their School Division Office thru their LRMDS and only one participant per Division. Names should be submitted by October 11, Friday via email (
) or thru this form.
3.Contestants are encouraged to draw inspiration from Filipino authored books and 2019 National Book Week theme “Inclusive. Innovative. Interconnected.” (Filipino translation: Magkakasama. Makabago. Magkakaugnay.)
4.Coaches are required to attend an orientation to be conducted by the NBW Working Committee on October 12, Saturday at Quezon City Public Library conference room at 8 AM - 11 NN.
5.The finals will be held on November 5, Thursday, 1 PM at National Library of the Philippines Childrens Section.
6.The following are the criteria for judging:
Organization (clarity of thought, structure, coherence) - 25%
Delivery and Style (unique storytelling, performance ) - 25%
Language (suitable descriptive language, word play ) - 25%
Content (depth of concept, relevance of theme) - 25%
Total - 100 %
7.Participant may submit only one (1) entry, written in either English and Filipino and regional languages depending on the participant’s preference, which will be given to the designated personnel at the registration booth.
8.Participants shall submit four (4) letter-sized printed copies of their entry
9.Entries shall have the following specifications:
a. Font size 12
b. Font type Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri, or Book Antiqua
c. One-inch margin on all sides
d. 1.5-line spacing and 0 pt. before and after
e. Stanzas separated with one space in between
10.Spontaneous delivery is preferred, however, they can use their printed guide/kodigo on stage.
11.Use of school uniform, costume, make-up are not allowed.
12.The entry to be submitted should be an original work of the student. If the participant is proven to have committed plagiarism in any way, even if unintentional, he/she will be disqualified or, if the unethical act was discovered after the contest, then the award and certificate will be revoked.
13.The Winners will receive the following prizes.
1st Prize – P 5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
2nd Prize – P 4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
3rd Prize – P 3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
14.Winners will officially be awarded during the official opening of the 85th National Book Week on
November 25, 2019, Monday, 8 AM.
