Welcome to Arc Stages Educational Stage Auditions!

If you are new to us, we are glad you are here. If you are an Arc Stages veteran, welcome back!

The Theatre Workshop Mission:

At Arc Stages, we endeavor to challenge students, in the fifth grade and up, to grow as actors, musicians, singers, dancers — as artists — by immersing them in the world of theatre, with the objective of building a professional quality show. Students will work with professional actors, directors, music directors, choreographers, and often writers. They will learn how to work as part of an ensemble, as well as be motivated to push their individual artistic and emotional boundaries within the material. Classes in Theatre Games, On Camera Techniques, Mask, and others will be given, interweaved throughout the rehearsal process. There may also be an Open Mic Night for which students would be encouraged to perform a song of their own choosing.

Our objective is to create an environment where everyone feels safe to express themselves, as unique individuals and as the characters they are creating on stage. We are not about building stars; we are here to train actors and to instill self‐confidence and a respect for the world of theatre. Most importantly, we are doing all of this hard work (and the students will work hard and sometimes long hours) for the joy of it. There is pride in their accomplishment and lots of fun throughout the rehearsal process!

THE PROCESS:

By signing up for the Tween Workshop (for 5th-7th graders) at Arc Stages, you are enrolling in the session. Auditions and callbacks are simply a great way to get to know our actors each semester. You are already ‘in,’ now we get to figure out the scheduling puzzle and decide which shows will best showcase our awesome actors and work together, to create a wonderful season of shows. We ask for weekly and performance weekend availability in advance of auditions so that we can plan the session. Please be as specific as possible with your scheduling information, so that we can plan accordingly and create rehearsal schedules that will best suit our actors, staff and space.

Make sure to bring your tuition check made out to Arc Stages when you send in your scheduling info (by September 10), or as soon as you sign up to audition).

TWEEN TUITION $775

THE AUDITION:

For the audition day, we ask that actors prepare a brief monologue and a brief song. Each should be 1 minute in length. These should be memorized and acted to the best of your ability. Please do not use any of us as your acting partner during the audition—pick a spot over our heads on which to focus. Choose pieces that you enjoy performing, and that you feel show you off!

Staff in the room at auditions may be: Adam Cohen (Arc Stages Artistic Director), Stephanie Kovacs Cohen (Educational Stage Artistic Director), Galit Sperling (Director of Education), Amy Schiff (Musical Director), Marcus Baker (Musical Director), and Stacey Bone-Gleason (Director). Any other people in the room are affiliated artistically with Arc Stages.

We may or may not cut you off in the middle of your pieces. We do this for time purposes, or to give you a note to see how you take direction. Most importantly, have fun with it! Breathe, and know that we are on your side and excited to get to know you.

CALLBACKS:

ALL ACTORS should expect to come to callbacks, to read sides (scenes), dance, and sing music from potential shows.

Callbacks for Tweens (5th-7th grades) will be on Sunday, September 17 from 1:00 - 3:30 pm. Actors should plan to be there the entire time.

STARTING REHEARSALS:

Cast lists and Performance Weekend confirmation for Tweens will emailed hopefully by Thursday, September 21. Rehearsals for the shows will begin the week of September 25.

Rehearsal and performance schedules will be given out the first day of rehearsal — make sure you mark your calendars and come to rehearsal on time! Rehearsals for the Tween Workshop take place for two hours between 3:30 - 6:00pm, most likely on Mondays or Wednesdays, depending on the show in which you are cast.

Once again, Welcome to ARC STAGES! We are very excited about this upcoming season and we are thrilled that you want to be a part of it!

*Arc Stages also offers weekly classes and workshops in musical theatre to
students from Pre-K through fourth grades. The Teen Workshop is our program for 8th-12th graders.
