The Episcopal Diocese of Michigan Youth Council serves young people through leadership and spiritual development and supports programming and events for their peers throughout the diocese.
Youth Council is open to high school students (9th-12th grade). They will serve a 2 year term, unless applying as a senior. The goal is to have the youth council be representative of the dioceses as a whole with one delegate from each of the diocese's seven deaneries and 5 at-large spots, totaling 13 representatives.
Students must be active in their congregation. This can include: participating in youth ministry; serving as an acolyte, lay reader, music team/choir, supporting Sunday School/nursery, altar guild, tech team, etc.; regular church attendance; or volunteering through a parish based outreach ministry.
When applying, all retreat weekends and meetings are required. We understand that emergencies arise, members are allowed one absence for the year. One absence is defined as either one day of a multi-day event or one meeting. Any additional absences could result in being removed from Council.
One youth council member from each deanery will have seat, voice, and vote at Diocesan Convention this year. All members are required to attend all of Diocesan Convention. Convention begins on Friday at 5:00 PM, students will stay overnight at the convention center hotel and usually concludes around 4:00 PM on Saturday.

Members in this group are from congregations throughout the diocese. Communication via GroupMe and email are frequently how we communicate. As a member of youth council you are expected to regularly check these platforms and respond within 3 days.
