Saddle Sense™ interest form
Hi all- My name is Willy and I did my masters at KCL last year. I have spun out my dissertation project into a start up which deploys low-cost air quality sensors (that also function as a bike light). My co-founder and I are now gauging interest for our next round of participants- aiming to add another 5-10 deployed sensors.

The project originates from my cycle trips into the KCL Strand campus. Some days, I feel I'd barely be able to catch my breath, while others, the ride was effortless. As an ex-university athlete and asthmatic, I realized air quality was to blame. This project aims to take the mystery out of cycling by providing realtime pollution data to our users.

So, why spend all this time building sensors? In London, there are ~350 stationary sensors. Research shows these are accurate in urban environments up to 150m. That leaves 95% of London without accurate readings. In response, you can either build more stationary sensors- or fill the gaps with mobile monitors. Enter our dynamic approach.

The sensor itself is small (~ 6x7cm, ~250g, fits under saddle), has a circular bike light, connects via Bluetooth and charges via USB-C (battery lasts for about 20 hours). The data feeds into our aggregated, public facing map which does not share any personally identifiable information publicly.

We are hoping to add new, excited users who have an iPhone and love to cycle, and are ultimately concerned about air quality and pollution exposure. If you have an android, still sign up as we are hoping to push out an android app soon.

Your participation will help us develop, improve and deploy this project - all while helping Londoners understand their pollution exposure.

Thank you and let me know any questions!
