I recognise that women!s rights and gender equality are indispensable and indivisible parts of
human rights, the basis of the rule of law and resilient democracies, a core value of the
European Union and a fundamental right enshrined in the Charter of the Fundamental Rights
of the European Union, its Treaties, as well as the key principle of the European Pillar of
Social Rights.I acknowledge and condemn that current policies are not sufficient to tackle the persistent
violation of women!s fundamental rights, gender-based discrimination and the serious
discrepancies between Member States regarding the implementation and protection of the
rights of women.
I therefore call for the standardization of women!s rights on EU level, a common EU
approach to protection of women!s rights as well as for the implementation of gender
mainstreaming and gender budgeting across all EU policies.
I pledge to uphold the principals enshrined in the Charter and in particular to support and
actively promote:
- the equal access for all to education and gender sensitive curricula, including
comprehensive sexuality and relationships education, in schools to raise awareness
about and address the intersectional historic discrimination of women and girls and to
empower the next generations to overcome stereotypes, discrimination and
inequalities in order to foster and sustain gender equal societies;
- women’s economic independence and full participation in the labour market,
eliminating any discrimination in the labour market, including the gender pay and
pension gap as well as horizontal pay segregation. I will advocate for measures
promoting work-life balance and a fair division of domestic and care responsibilities
to reach an equal earner-equal carer society, as well as policies aiming to eliminate
economic violence and gender bias in taxation;
- gender equal representation in political and economic decision-making at all levels;
- the elimination of gender based violence and harassment, while at the same time
supporting victims, including in access to justice. I pledge to advocate for an EU wide
consent-based definition of rape and inclusion of gender-based violence in the list of
crimes listed under Article 83(1) TFEU.
- the acknowledgement of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (‘SRHR’),
including the access to safe and legal abortion, as fundamental human rights being
universal, inalienable and indivisible. I pledge to advocate and promote policies in
favor of maternal care, family planning and access to contraception. I will work towards advocating for the inclusion of the right to safe, legal and free abortion in the
Charter of the Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
- the implementation of gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting and the
application of gender impact assessments, i.e.to integrate the gender perspective at
all stages and levels of EU policies, programmes and projects, including foreign
policy and crisis management with the respect of the three principles of a feminist
foreign policy: rights, resources, representation.
