Adopt a Refugee Family for Christmas
During this holiday season, Gathering Humanity invites you to adopt a refugee family in need. Your giving greatly alleviates needs for refugees who have come from all over the world, like Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Burma, etc. They have all survived difficult conditions, escaped war, torture or persecution. Refugees arrive with almost nothing yet need to resettle in a new country, a new culture, with a new language. It can be overwhelming. Your contributions provide a warm welcome, fulfill needs, and helps our new neighbors during this difficult transition this holiday season. Please sign up below to adopt a refugee family for Christmas, and/or scroll to the bottom of the page for more details. Registration for this program will close on Dec 5th. Registration for our Christmas Stocking program for Afghans & Asylees will be open until Dec 15th; our goal is 650 stockings! Thank you for your service and donations to bring holiday cheer to all refugees!

With gratitude,
Gathering Humanity

COVID Compliance: Are you willing to be sensitive to the vulnerability of the refugee family you adopt by complying with the Resettlement Agency's regulations for contact? These may include the following and could be subject to the changing situation: face masks, social distancing, waiver forms, AZ Fingerprint Clearance cards, porch drop-off, etc. When you receive your family assignment in November by email, you will receive a specific list of COVID compliant behavior mandated by the Resettlement Agency of your refugee family. IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. We will have an optional information meeting the evening of Tuesday, November 16th at 7:30 pm via FBLive/Zoom with more information and for anyone wanting to ask further questions. The FBLive/Zoom link will be sent in your welcome letter after registration. This event will also be recorded so you can view later at your convenience.
2. By the end of November latest, and depending upon your registration, you will be matched with and receive your adopted refugee family information by email, including names, genders, ages, country of origin, languages, etc. You will also receive a small list of needs/requests specific to your adopted family, as well as a list of typically needed items to give you ideas for purchasing (also listed below) and any updated health/COVID regulations we receive from the resettlement agencies.
3. Please deliver at least one gift per person (you may bring more) for the method and night you choose for *delivery.
4. When purchasing gifts, please keep receipts and log your approximate hours. When purchasing is completed, please email pictures or copies of receipts and log to the email listed on your family match email with the name of your adopted refugee family in the email subject line. The receipts and log are used by resettlement agencies for matching grant applications, to apply for on-going funding to further help these families throughout the year.
5. *SPECIAL NOTE: Due to Covid 19, resettlement agencies responsible for refugee families are constantly adjusting policies according to government regulations. Our hope, as in past years, is that you will be able to deliver the gifts according to your preferred delivery method, like to the doorstep of your adopted family directly on the specified date/time. However, please understand that adjustments may need to be made and regulations adjusted for COVID that may require the following: face masks and social distancing, a signed volunteer agreement, temperature check, an AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card and/or gift drop-off at a central location to minimize contact. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we try to navigate the changing environment while keeping this invaluable program open to our refugees in need.
6. Another email outlining delivery details, address corrections if needed, updated COVID regulations and tips for visiting your adopted family will be sent in a separate email approximately 2-5 days before your delivery date in December. Therefore, please check your inbox for emails from gatheringhumanity@gmail.com! You should receive a total of approximately three emails (welcome, family match, and delivery instructions). Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

Also, please note that the sooner you register, the greater likelihood we can fulfill all your requests in matching you with a refugee family on your dates, delivery options, language, size, etc. Please also know that even a family of 1 is in need, and sometimes in great need because they do not have a family to rely on to share rent, for support, etc. We appreciate you taking families of all sizes. Registration will end for Adopt a Refugee Program Dec 5th; however, registration for our Christmas Stockings for Afghans & Asylees program will be open until Dec 15th; our goal is 650 Christmas Stockings!

Thank you for Adopting a Refugee Family for Christmas with Gathering Humanity! Your generosity is alleviating heavy burdens and healing hearts during this holiday season.
