PURPOSE OF STUDYThe purpose of the study is to evaluate the importance and/or relevance of various indicators of urban resilience to the residents of Northridge. The indicators are: Energy, Water, Environmental Concerns, Traffic Safety, Transportation, Street Character and Walkability, Infrastructure, Surface Analysis, Food, Health and Education, Crime and Safety, Businesses, Community Network, Planning Efforts, and Housing.
SUBJECTSInclusion RequirementsYou are eligible to participate in this study if you are at least 18 years of age or older and live within one of Northridge’s three neighborhood councils (Northridge South, Northridge East, or Northridge West).
PROCEDURES If you accept to participate, you will be asked to complete an online survey.
RISKS AND DISCOMFORTSThis study involves no more than minimal risk. There are no known harms or discomforts associated with this study beyond those encountered in normal daily life.
BENEFITS Subject BenefitsThis survey may or may not have any tangible benefits to the participant.
Benefits to Society or OthersThe potential benefits for the research team may be:
1. Help understand what the citizens of Northridge think regarding the fifteen abovementioned indicators.2. This project will provide data that may be used in the future for potential ways to make Northridge resilient during and after times of crises, as well as data that may be used in the future to prevent crises from occurring in Northridge.

CONFIDENTIALITYSubject Identifiable DataNo names or identifiable information will be attributed to any information gathered.
Data Storage, Access, and RetentionAll data (survey responses) will be stored on the Faculty Advisor’s password protected computer in her locked campus office. All data will be accessible to student investigators and faculty investigators listed on the protocol for research purposes. Data will be deleted after 5 years.
Mandated ReportingUnder California law, the researchers are required to report known or reasonably suspected incidents of abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult or elder, including, but not limited to, physical, sexual, emotional, and financial abuse or neglect. If any researcher has or is given such information, he or she may be required to report it to the authorities.
