Read & Grow with IV
Classes may be ending soon, but we want to expand our learning beyond this moment. We know to be more fully formed Jesus-followers and members of the global, multiethnic Family of God, we are on a lifelong journey of learning from God and one another. So we invite you to READ & GROW with IV this summer! We'll read two different books (more info below) and organize reading groups or spaces to process throughout the summer.

We've already begun reading, but you can still get books! Check out IV Stanford's Instagram for instructions about how to follow along with the books: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBqo1gcJRCr/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet.

And check out our Summer Calendar for dates/times for book discussions and some companion spiritual formation events: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Evlx6aTo37qqMQnJndtjmqHJ53dAVG7Ekz4H6lsxYeE/edit#

“A landmark in the conversation about race and religion in America. ‘They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.’ Acts 10:39 The cross and the lynching tree are the two most emotionally charged symbols in the history of the African American community. In this powerful new work, theologian James H. Cone explores these symbols and their interconnection in the history and souls of black folk... [Cone] contemplates the greatest challenge of any Christian theology to explain how life can be made meaningful in the face of death and injustice."

The Common Rule by Justin Whitmel Earley
Since this book is published by InterVarsity Press, we get a great discount - it’s only $7.20! To purchase one, Venmo Molly (@macfield) and choose whether you would like a physical OR e-copy (make sure to include your mailing address if you want an e-copy). https://www.ivpress.com/the-common-rule

“The modern world is a machine of a thousand invisible habits, forming us into anxious, busy, and depressed people. We yearn for the freedom and peace of the gospel, but remain addicted to our technology, shackled by our screens, and exhausted by our routines. But because our habits are the water we swim in, they are almost invisible to us. What can we do about it?

The answer to our contemporary chaos is to practice a rule of life that aligns our habits to our beliefs. The Common Rule offers four daily and four weekly habits, designed to help us create new routines and transform frazzled days into lives of love for God and neighbor... As you embark on these life-giving practices, you will find the freedom and rest for your soul that comes from aligning belief in Jesus with the practices of Jesus.”
