MIRID Award Nominations for Spring 2017
MIRID will be honoring individuals during our Spring 2017 Professional Development Days. We would love to hear from you, the membership, about who you believe should be honored and why. This spring we will be honoring individuals in the following 3 categories:

- Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion of the Profession of Interpreting
- Deaf Community Member Award for Contribution to ASL and Interpreter Education
- Working Interpreter Award

Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion of the Profession of Interpreting
The recipient should be one whose talent, efforts, and work has in a fundamental way advanced the field of interpreting; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged by professional peers and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community; and whose work has and will continue to have a lasting impression on interpreters, the profession, and society.

Eligibility Requirements:
Candidates for this award are role models in the field of interpreting. The recipient’s life-long career had a significant impact on society as a whole. The Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion of the Profession of Interpreting shall be given to a person whose efforts have changed, shaped, or anyway affected the field of interpreting or the lives of interpreters. The candidate for this award has been and may continue to interpret in Michigan. This interpreter will have at a minimum 25 years interpreting experience. The recipient should be a member of MIRID in good standing at the time they are nominated and chosen to receive this recognition. The Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion of the Profession of Interpreting may also be given posthumously.
Deaf Community Member Award for Contribution to ASL and Interpreter Education
This award is to be given to a person who has made significant contributions to the promotion of American Sign Language and the field of interpreter education.

Eligibility Requirements:
This person serves as a role model for people in the field of interpreting; demonstrating that they are an ally of Deaf people, teaching, mentoring and/or having developed instructional materials for ASL, and/or interpreter training.
This person is one who respects people from all walks of life, regardless of their ability to hear, race, economic status, etc. He/she encourages students/people to grow to their maximum potential.
This person is a Deaf Rights advocate, a staunch proponent of ASL and Deaf Culture. This can be demonstrated in his/her teaching, interpreting and advocating.
This person is currently or has been a Michigan resident, and has contributed to the field of interpreting or deafness in a significant way, in the state of Michigan.
Working Interpreter Award
This award aims to celebrate a working interpreter, new or seasoned. It will be awarded to an interpreter that is currently demonstrating best practices in his/her craft, serves as a bicultural ally to the Deaf Community, and who supports and encourages peers to succeed in the profession.

Eligibility Requirements :
Nominee must be currently working as an interpreter. Interpreting should be their main profession/type of employment.
Nominee should have 5 to 7 years working experience as an interpreter.
Nominee has demonstrated best practices as an interpreter and demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with other interpreters, Deaf and/or hearing.
Nominee consistently demonstrates appropriate bi-cultural behaviors while working and while socializing within his/her respective community.
