Thank you for your interest in California State University Fullerton's Summer Institute on Transformative Teaching in Secondary Education!
This week-long summer intensive provides 25 middle and high school teachers with the opportunity to partner with CSUF faculty and other local educators to explore diverse approaches to culturally and linguistically sustaining teaching; create and receive feedback on social justice-oriented, standards-aligned curriculum for use in their own classrooms; and develop strategies to effectively navigate pressing social and political controversies that impact teaching and learning in California.
Our 2026 Summer Institute on Transformative Teaching will be hosted face-to-face at California State University, Fullerton from 9AM - 3PM for one week. Applicants will be asked to indicate their preferred dates when submitting their applications; dates will be finalized no later than February 1st.
Teachers who are selected to participate in the Summer Institute will receive a $1000 stipend to support their attendance and be eligible for continuing education units through Extended Education. Breakfast, lunch, and parking are provided to summer institute attendees. Our first review of applications will be on February 1st; for full consideration, please submit your application on or before that date; applications submitted after that date will considered as space allows.
In addition to receiving a stipend, teachers who participate the 2026 Summer Institute will be eligible to apply for one of 12 graduate fellowships within CSUF’s
Master of Science in Transformative Teaching in Secondary Education. Those selected as fellows will receive an additional $2500 stipend to support their enrollment in the MSTT program during the 2026-27 or 2027-28 academic year; mentorship from CSUF faculty; and opportunities to present their work and facilitate dialogue about educational equity and social justice at a series of face-to-face and virtual conferences for CSUF students and in-service teachers.
