Words That Count (legally registered as STEM Women Foundation Limited) is an Africa-rooted initiative advancing gender equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by making women’s knowledge, research, journeys, and leadership visible, valued, and influential. We work at the intersection of storytelling, mentorship, capacity building, and policy engagement to address structural and social barriers that limit girls’ and women’s participation in STEM across the continent.
Our core approach begins with documenting and amplifying the lived experiences of African women in STEM. We showcase journeys of relatable role models who challenge persistent stereotypes about who belongs in STEM and expand how young people imagine STEM-related careers. To learn more about us visit
