Digital Video Policy and Guidelines
Humanities Computing provides equipment and training to faculty interested in digitizing video for the following purposes:
Preserve Media from Deterioration
Make digital copies of audio cassette and VHS tapes to save content that is at risk of loss with tape disintegration.
VHS conversion should only be undertaken if there is no reasonably priced version available in DVD or BluRay format.
Video digitizing must be authorized by the copyright holder(s) of the material, OR it must fall under Fair Use guidelines as linked below in Step 3.
Faculty are responsible for digitized and/or uploaded Google Drive videos that do not fall within Fair Use criteria.
