RWSN 2025 Handpump Survey - One Country

The Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) continues to support rural water supply services, including efforts to ensure that infrastructure is of good quality. Efforts to address issues of handpump quality and corrosion are being undertaken through an initiative called Stop the Rot.

With this survey, we want to learn about your ongoing experiences with handpumps, focussing on corrosion, often referred to as “the red water” problem. It follows from previous RWSN Handpump Surveys published in 2013 and 2021 which looked at a broader range of issues. High levels of iron in handpump supplies can require pumping for some time until the water becomes clear, can result in the rejection of the source by users, and/or can lead to premature failure of the supply. We want to learn from you – even if you have not experienced this problem!

This questionnaire relates to one country only. If you prefer to take this survey as an organisation working in multiple countries, please click here, otherwise continue. If you wish to provide detailed information on more than one country, please feel free to take the survey more than once.

This 16-question survey should take no more than 25 minutes of your time. It will remain open up to the 15 November 2025. Thank you, and please do encourage others to participate.

The survey is being managed by Ask for Water Ltd and Skat Foundation in partnership with Daniel Hudson, a Masters Student at the University of Strathclyde.  All individual responses will remain anonymous. We shall publish a report that consolidates findings. At the end of the questionnaire, can include your name and/or organisation if you wish. If you have any questions in relation to the survey, or our work on the guidance, please contact Kerstin Danert on kerstin.danert@ask-for-water.co.uk
