Community Mediation DC Board of Directors Application
Community Mediation DC (CMDC) is looking for new board members. We need your ideas, passion, and commitment to lead CMDC forward! This includes advancing a thoughtful, proactive fundraising strategy, strengthening engagement with community partners, and further aligning our values and operations. This is an opportunity to be a part of an exciting local organization and help shape its vision and goals.
As a collective, the Board affirms their commitment to the values of the 10-point mediation model, as well as their support of empowering communities to resolve their own conflicts. The Board ensures fiscal responsibility by monitoring income and expenses and developing realistic budgets. The Board also oversees personnel with fair policies, supervision of the Executive Director, and maintenance of strong board/staff relations.

Board members are expected to:

• Attend quarterly board meetings – four 2-hour meetings per year, often by teleconference
• Share Board leadership roles and responsibilities (such as meeting facilitator, outreach or fundraising team leader, etc.)
• Serve as an Officer
• Dedicate significant time to the organization (5-10 hours a month)
• Help fundraise – have a personal goal and a plan to see it through
• Serve a two-year term
• Hold yourself and others accountable and follow through on things you commit to doing.
• Work cooperatively with the rest of the Board and staff.
• Request and use mediation as a tool for resolving personal and board-related conflicts

Board members engage in fundraising to ensure the financial health of the organization. With this Board, an annual contribution is welcomed and not required. Board members are required to actively participate in fundraising, including the annual fundraising campaign.

CMDC is a DC-based grassroots organization working to make DC a city where mediation is used to build strong and peaceful communities, and ever DC resident has access to high-quality, collaborative conflict resolution services.

• Passion for expanding peace and social justice in the District
• Commitment to the community mediation movement and to CMDC as an organization
• Strong connection to Washington, DC
• Desire to contribute to CMDC’s growth and development
• Ability to contribute to strengthening the organization internally – developing its functionality
• Skills to contribute to strengthening the organization externally – sharing in programmatic responsibilities
• Willingness to make a meaningful monthly time commitment

The CMDC Board aims to reflect the diversity of Washington D.C. with regard to age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, income, education, and experiences. The majority of the Board is trained in the Inclusive mediation model.
