Sunrise will host 3 two-week sessions for Summer 2018.
Session 1: June 4-June 15Session 2: June 18-June 29
Each session will offer a unique experience wherein youth will explore social issues, build community, develop life skills and leadership experience, establish community connections, engage in service and more! No experience needed! Sunrise welcomes youth of all backgrounds to participate. Whether you are an introvert, extrovert, super-involved or never-been-involved-before kind of person..... we welcome you to Sunrise Youth Camp!
Sessions will be held Monday through Friday 9am to noon. Youth will meet at Sunrise Project, 1501 Learnard Ave. each day with many field trips, service projects and community exploration activities included in each week. Details are still being finalized but examples of activities include: Cooking, racial justice discussions, guest speakers from Headquarters Counseling and Sexual Trauma and Abuse Care Center, service projects at food pantries and the homeless shelter, nature hikes, skill-building for starting school clubs, fundraising, activism, art workshops and helping out in the Sunrise Community Garden and Lawrence Community Orchard!
As part of the Sunrise Youth camp, groups will work together to create social action plans that will guide future Sunrise Youth programming. Upon completion of camp, youth will be certified Sunrise Youth leaders and will be invited to continue working with and leading peer groups at Sunrise Project during the 2018-2019 school year.
Suggested donation for the 2-week experience is $125. All Sunrise Project programs are donation-based and no one is ever turned away due to inability to pay. We welcome people from all backgrounds! Give what you can!
