Interest in Presenting at LEAPS 2026
Thank you for your interest in presenting at the LEAPS 2025 Textile Waste Conference on February 19, 2026. Submissions are invited from those interested in presenting research, pitching an innovative project or intervention, or offering a workshop to participants. The deadline to submit a presentation is TBD. Please read below for information regarding submission types and notification of acceptance.

Research Abstract Submissions: 15-minute presentations followed by 5 minutes of Q&A (depending on number of submissions, some poster presentations may be offered.) Sample topics include environmental health impacts of textile waste, evaluations of proposed or existing policies to reduce textile waste, innovations in recycling or upcycling, perspectives on textile waste from the Global South. Submission format is a structured abstract with the following sections: background, methods, results, conclusion, and implications. Abstracts should be no longer than 650 words

Workshop Proposals: 40-minute interactive workshop (expect 10 to 20 participants). Sample topics include how to make it easier for customers to build an ethical closet, advocacy techniques for building a movement toward a more sustainable fashion industry, how art can advance our awareness of textile pollution. Submission format is a structured proposal that addresses the following: describe what will happen in your workshop, what you hope your audience will learn or gain from the workshop, and how your workshop will be interactive. Proposals should be no longer than 650 words.

Innovation Sandbox Pitches: 5-minute pitch followed by 15 minutes of structured feedback (prepare 3-5 questions and plan to use the audience as a focus group for feedback and idea generation). Sample topics include new policy ideas to reduce textile waste at the local, state, national, global levels, new business models for the circular economy, advocacy project ideas, start-up ideas in the upcycled fashion space. Submission format is an elevator pitch that is a maximum of 400 words and 3-5 questions that you will pose to the audience so they can offer formative feedback.

Submission Evaluation and Notification: Submissions will be reviewed by a committee including representatives from the Aftermath Learning Lab and conference partners. The submissions will be evaluated for alignment with the conference objectives and whether they fit with other submissions to generate cohesive sessions.

The LEAPS Conference seeks to reflect a diversity of voices, viewpoints, and perspectives around textile pollution and other environmental health issues (i.e. a diversity of identities, geographic locations, disciplines, industry affiliations, stakeholders etc.). We also specifically encourage submissions that are: (1) led by individuals from the Global South, (2) include perspectives and viewpoints from stakeholders in the Global South, or (3) involve partnerships with communities in the Global South.

Applicants will be notified about whether they have been accepted to present at the conference by late February or early March 2024. We plan to accept as many submissions as possible. However, given the short duration of the conference, we may be forced to turn away some quality submissions. We hope you consider attending the conference even if your submission is not accepted this year.
