Ninth Grade Course Requests, 2020-2021
Welcome to Justin-Siena! Please use this online form, due April 8, 2020, to request your classes for freshman year. When you submit your responses, an email receipt will be sent to the email address you provide.
All ninth graders take a minimum of six classes and a maximum of seven classes, including Christian Scriptures, in which all ninth graders are placed. For the remaining courses, please select your preferences, but all ninth graders take a course in each English, Mathematics, Science, World Languages, and either World History or a Visual & Performing Arts course. For the seventh course, Study Period is strongly recommended for most ninth graders.
1. Christian Scriptures - Required
2. Physics 9 or Honors Physics 9 - Required (Students are placed based on PSAT 8/9 scores and Math Placement)
3. English 9 or Honors English 9 - Required (Students are placed based on PSAT 8/9 scores)
4. Mathematics course - Required (Students wishing to place higher than Algebra I must take the Math Challenge Test.
5. World Language course - Strongly encouraged (Students select among French, Mandarin, or Spanish. Students wishing to place higher than Level I must take a World Language Challenge Assessment.)
6. World History OR Visual and Performing Arts* - World History and one-year Visual and Performing Arts are required for graduation. (Students can choose whether to take World History in the 9th grade or World History or AP World History in the 10th grade.)
7. Study Period OR Honors Introduction to Engineering Design* - (Study Period makes sense for most freshmen transitioning to the academic load of high school. Freshmen who take Study Period will be well-on-track to meeting graduation and college admission requirements)
*Students requesting Instrumental Music, Advanced Instrumental Music, or Honors Introduction to Engineering Design will be prompted to fill out some application questions in this course request form.
This form is asking you for your preferences, even though you don't yet know your placements. The Justin-Siena staff will do all that they can to place you in your preferred classes. However, they will ultimately make placements based on pre-requisites, placement test results, challenge assessment results, teacher recommendations, and course availability.
