2018 MSU-RHS Scholarship Application
MERIT AND NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPThese scholarships exist to assist both participants of limited financial means who exhibit evidence of strong achievement in their work and/or studies as well as excellent potential for success in organic farming. Merit and need-based scholarships are made possible by funds raised at our annual Feast in the Field, sponsored by MSU Residential and Hospitality Services (MSU-RHS).
SCHOLARSHIP VALUEA limited number of scholarships will be awarded based on assessed financial need and merit. Scholarships will range from $500 to $3,000 and will be applied to the cost of the program once the recipients portion of the tuition is paid. (i.e. Total program fees are $3,600; a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship will owe $2,600 for the program.)
ELIGIBILITYApplicants must:- Complete the scholarship application- Submit relevant financial information, including their most recent tax return statement (or the tax return of anyone claiming them as a dependent).- Be admitted to the Organic Farmer Training Program for the upcoming year in order to receive the award. (Please note that scholarship applications should be submitted at the same time as the Application for Admission to the program.)
SELECTION CRITERIA1. Evidence of sustained commitment to and achievement in previous work and studies.2. Evidence of financial hardship.3. One letter of recommendation required detailing why the candidate should be considered for this award (written examples of the applicant’s need, achievement, merit, or potential are encouraged).4. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning.5. Demonstrated commitment to and excellent potential for a successful career in organic farming and food production. CONDITIONS- The allocation will be applied directly as a credit to program fees. There will be no cash allocation or distribution.- I understand that my scholarship will be applied after my portion is paid in full. - The scholarship will be forfeited if: >The recipient fails to complete any required components of the program, including attendance and assignments. >The recipient cancels their enrollment in the program.

Note: All information provided will be held strictly confidential. It will be viewed only by the members of the Organic Farmer Training Program Scholarship Committee and the MSU Office of Financial Aid; this information will only be reviewed in order assess the need for financial support required to attend the Organic Farmer Training Program in 2018.
