The Atlas of Inspiring Latin American Scientists aims to highlight the contributions of Latin American researchers who completed part of their scientific training in the Global North (U.S., Canada, Europe) and have returned to their home countries to establish independent research labs and pursue critical scientific questions. This open-source resource will serve as a tool for discovery, collaboration, and networking with Latin American researchers across disciplines and borders.
This Atlas will celebrate and showcase the impactful research conducted by scientists in the Global South—particularly those based in Latin America. Building on the model of the Atlas of Inspiring Hispanic/Latinx Scientists created by Dr. Tina Termini at Fred Hutch, this initiative will feature detailed researcher profiles to amplify their work, promote international collaboration, and increase the visibility and funding of research led by Latin American scientists. Please use this form to nominate scientists to include within this Atlas.
Nominees must be self-identified Latin American scientists based in Latin America, and currently professors in academia. Expansion to include other career stages is planned for the future. The definition of "inspiring" can vary widely and is based on the perspective of the nominator.
