Dear Prospective NHS Candidate:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of Douglas County High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society. Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. Our chapter has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four ideals are considered as the basis for selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student—one who excels in all of these areas

The National Honor Society is built on FOUR PILLARS:

                                                                           CHARACTER  
NHS students uphold principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others.
 
                                                                         SCHOLARSHIP
NHS students have and will maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

                                                                          LEADERSHIP
NHS students are leaders who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life.

                                                                             SERVICE
NHS students voluntarily contributes to his or her school and community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.
 
 
                                                                       
                                                                             Member Requirements

* Maintain cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 weighted or unweighted is required for membership and must be maintained.
Should a member’s GPA drop below a 3.5, a letter of probation will be issued indicating that the student has a period of 9 weeks in which to restore the cumulative 3.5 GPA. Should the member fail to improve, a letter of impending dismissal will be sent.

*Meeting Attendance
Members are expected to attend all meetings. Members missing a 2ND meeting will be placed on probation. Members missing a 3rd meeting will be immediately dismissed and forfeit all rights and privileges associated with NHS.

*Members are required to join the NHS Google Classroom and check their school email regularly.
Meeting announcements and other pertinent information will be posted in our Google Classroom


*100% Participation in all NHS service projects and fundraisers is required.  Participation means providing a sincere and significant contribution to all NHS activities.


*Completion of  ten hours of community service each year.


* NHS Dues : $20  Members must pay dues.


NOTE

Failure to adhere to all expectations will result in the student not being in “good standing,” probation, or dismissal.

Only members who meet all Member Requirements will earn graduation regalia.
