Field Trip Permission Form
While we are unsure as to whether we will be able to take field trips, we would like to be prepared if restrictions are lifted.

This Annual Field Trip Permission Form gives Grace Christian School and its staff permission to take the above-named student off campus for school approved field trips for this coming school year. Field trip admission and any transportation fees are included in your child’s tuition.  In some cases, your child may be asked to bring additional funds for food, etc.

Parents will be notified by email in advance of all field trips and related details. If at that time, you choose to opt your child out of the field trip, it will be your responsibility to notify the teacher. Because field trip costs are incorporated into tuition, no refunds will be given.

This form also gives Grace Christian School and its staff permission to walk with this student to Gypsy Hill Park, as well as to other areas within walking distance (i.e. Staunton Senior Center) with their class for an educational excursion. Students will be supervised at all times, and teachers will notify the office when they leave and return to school.
I give permission for my child to participate in the activities as outlined in the above field trip permission information for the 2020-2021 school year.  (Parent/Guardian sign below) *
Student Computer & Internet Use Agreement

1. I will not give out personal information such as my home address, parental information, or school name or location without the permission of my teacher.
2. I will immediately notify my teacher if I come across any information that makes me feel awkward or uncomfortable.
3. I will never get together with someone I have “met” on-line without first getting my parents’ and teacher’s permission. If they agree, I will still bring an adult with me.
4. I will never forward my picture or anything else without first getting my teacher’s approval.
5. I will not return any messages that are inappropriate or make me feel uncomfortable. If I receive a message like this, I will notify my teacher.

The following activities are illegal, and I will not willingly participate in them:
1. Gaining unauthorized access to any place (site, folder, or account) I am not supposed to be.
2. Disrupting any computer system.
3. Contributing to help spread electronic viruses.
4. Engaging in any illegal activity on-line.

I am aware that any on-line correspondence I send is a reflection of my school and myself. The ability to correspond with my classmates and instructors is a privilege and should only be done for academic reasons.
1. My messages will be short, courteous, and to the point.
2. I will not use obscene language, engage in personal or discriminatory attacks, or post false or misleading information about individuals or organizations.

I will not access, download, or distribute:
1. Any pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit materials.
2. Inappropriate information or graphics.

These policies and procedures must be adhered to, and any violation of them will be met with zero tolerance.
• Students must abide by their signed contracts.
• The use of the computer is a privilege, not a right.
• If this contract is broken, the student’s privilege will be revoked.

Electronic Communication Device Policy & Contract
All middle and high school students and their parents are required to read and sign the Electronic Communication Device Policy and Contract prior to the beginning of each school year, both of which are included below.

In order to enhance learning, cultivate interpersonal skills, minimize distractions, and encourage students to be more fully present where they are, GCS students are not permitted to use an electronic communication device (ECD) at school.

Designated ECD Storage
Both campuses (middle and high school) are equipped with designated storage holders for student ECD. These holders are under video surveillance for safe keeping, and they are the only places that students are permitted to store and keep their ECDs during the school day.

At the beginning of the year, students will be assigned a specific pocket in the ECD holder. Upon arrival in the building, a student should turn their ECD off and put it in their assigned holder pocket. Students should not use their ECDs at any time during the day. Students are responsible for picking up their ECDs before they leave the building at the end of the day.

GCS buses and vans are equipped with lockboxes for student ECD storage. These boxes are secured in the bus or van, and buses and vans are to be locked whenever they are unoccupied. On field trips and sports travel, student ECDs should remain in the locked storage box until their return back to the pick-up site. Teachers and coaches may use their discretion about allowing students to communicate with parents in a timely way to inform them of the estimated time of arrival.

Discipline (HS)
Students who violate this policy by having or using their ECDs during the school day will be given a work detention as a warning for a first offense. A second offense will result in a one-day suspension from school. A third offense will result in a three-day suspension. The result of any further offenses will be determined by the principal and head of school.

Discipline (ES/MS)
Students who violate this policy by having or using their ECDs during the school day will have their ECD taken to the office to be retrieved by the parents.  A second offense will result in a one-day suspension from school. The result of any further offenses will be determined by the principal and head of school.

Field Trips
No ECDs will be used on a field trip. Principals, in consultation with teachers, can determine exceptions to this policy for each field trip. Otherwise, student ECDs are to remain locked and secure on the bus or van at the site and during travel time. Violation of this policy will be in accordance with the ECD disciplinary policies above.

Athletics
Student ECDs are to remain in the designated lockbox secured in the bus or van during away trips and games. The bus or van will remain locked while unoccupied on the site. Student-athlete ECDs will remain in the lockbox in the locked vehicle during away games.

Student-athletes who violate this policy will miss the first game after the offense. Student-athletes violating the policy during a trip to a game will miss that game. Student-athletes violating the policy during a trip home from a game will miss the next game. If the next game is an away game, it is up to the discretion of the Athletic Director and Principal as to whether or not the student-athlete will travel with the team to the event.

Consequences for multiple offenses will be determined by school administration.

After School Care
Designated storage holders will be provided for students who bring their ECDs to after school care.  Students will be asked to place their ECDs in the designated holder during their time at after school care. It will be the student’s responsibility to pick up their ECD before leaving for the day. If a student violates this policy by having their ECD the result will be that the ECD will be confiscated and returned to the parent.  Consequences for multiple offenses will be determined by school administration.

I understand that possession of an ECD on school campus is a privilege and that it may be revoked at any time by the administration for violating this school policy. I understand that the school and its employees are in no way responsible for any theft or damage of my ECD while on school grounds or participating in school sponsored events. The school is not obligated to investigate the loss or damage of any ECD.  Student Signature: *

Parent Volunteer Organization
In a normal school year, we would be asking for parent volunteers to help in various ways around the school.  At this time, because of COVID restrictions, we will not be asking for in-person volunteers for school or classroom activities.  As restrictions are lifted, we may reach out for room parents and helpers, assistance with meals for staff meetings, Grandparents’ Day help, etc.

Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help our Community Care team, and with some activities that will be planned and conducted virtually.  Please indicate below if you would like to help us with the following:

Community Care Committee: Help other school families in their time of need with things such as a meal, note of encouragement, ride to school, packed lunch for their child, etc.

Pass It On Project: The PIOP will be an optional service event that will take place primarily outdoors.

Social Events: Help us execute fun school events while being safe!

Auction: Help with planning and organization of auction, assisting in acquiring auction donations, decorating, live streaming, videotaping, etc.

Before and After School Care
GCS offers Before School Care and After School Care for students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Interested parents must register their students in these programs.

To insure the safety and protection of our students, supervision and guidance is required at all times. Therefore, if a child is dropped off between 7:15 and 7:45 am, that child will automatically be placed in Before School Care, and parents will be billed accordingly.

At this time, because of the COVID restrictions placed on us, we are only able to offer After School Care to a limited number of students. In light of this, we discourage parents from registering their children for After School Care merely for the sake of convenience. We strive to first provide this service to families who are working and are truly unable to pick up their children at dismissal. As restrictions are lifted, we will be able to offer After School Care to more students. This program is open from dismissal (11:30 for Pre-K and 3:30 for grades K-8) until 5:30 p.m.

A registration form will be emailed to you if you indicate you will need Before School Care and/or After School Care. The form will include all of the associated charges that will be billed to your FACTS account each month.
