UPDATE: Prairie State College commits to new graduation venue in 2025 & affirms students' rights to express themselves at this year's ceremony

The Prairie State College president issued a statement on April 23 in response to criticism surrounding the commencement venue they booked for the Classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024. You can read the full statement on the Prairie State College website.

PFLAG Homewood-Flossmoor's full statement can be found on Facebook and Instagram.

We are keeping this form active and invite community members to continue to sign on in support of PSC students who, instead of focusing on their upcoming final exams and celebrations, were instead forced to fight to have their basic human rights recognized. Please add your name below and leave a comment, if you'd like.

There’s power in numbers and we are SO encouraged by the flood of support shown in just the first couple of hours this statement was live. Thank you to residents of Homewood, Flossmoor, and our surrounding communities – your support means the world 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
Original Statement
Prairie State College hosts their graduation ceremony in a space that is not welcoming to LGBTQ+ graduates, despite years of complaints from their staff and students. As a taxpayer-funded institution and one that has publicly committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, Prairie State has an obligation to the community to ensure that all people feel welcome and free from discrimination in class, on campus, and at college-sponsored events.

I am signing this statement to show my support of and solidarity with Prairie State College's LGBTQ+ students and faculty. Together, we ask the Prairie State College President and Board of Trustees to publicly commit to finding a new venue for next year's graduation ceremony so that all graduates can feel safe, welcomed, and fully celebrated at this significant life event.
