Beyond Shakespeare Exploring Sessions
Week Beginning 30th March to 3rd April: Please fill in even if you've performed with us before!
From Mondays to Fridays from 7pm for a 7.30pm start (UK Time) we're running evening sessions exploring early drama and are looking for participants. Each weekday evening we'll meet on zoom, read through a play, with stops and starts to discuss and figure out how it works. The sessions will be recorded and shared online for lovers of plays and to keep us sane in these times of isolation. Mostly the latter.
Each session opens at 7.00pm UK time (currently GMT, soon to be BST), with the recording beginning around 7.30pm. The recording will be then released as soon after the session complete - this maybe video or just the audio. If you're a podcaster or have a good microphone, we'd love for you to record your feed separately for later editing to upgrade of the session, but it isn't a barrier if you do not.
WEEK TWO - we're going to do larger cast plays and longer plays, so we may go longer and do less discussion than the first week. Please sign up for the days you'd like to do - the size of part offered will vary with multiple days. We're also running a deep dive session in the afternoons - doing one or two acts at a time from a longer play or plays. Next week we're doing Tamberlaine the Great p1 and p2 by Christopher Marlowe.
Scripts and casting will be delivered by email on the weekend. Currently the plays in the mix for week two (subject to change and in no particular order) are: A Yorkshire Tragedy, Dido Queen of Carthage by Christopher Marlowe, The Tragedy of Iphigeneia translated by Lady Lumley, The Disobedient Child, and Cambyses. But this is subject to change depending on numbers. Don't request to be up for these individually, it'll be a random numbers game.
We may offer access to the zoom feed for those not interested in reading or for understudies in case of drop out, who can comment when the reading pauses - though non active participants will be asked to mute audio and video unless called by the moderator to speak. More info on our website -
Contact us with the form below if you'd like to act, or if you have expertise in early or early modern play texts and would like to help.
