2025-2026 Volunteer Interest Form
The PTSA needs your help!  Please consider signing up to serve on a committee. Some committees also need a Chairperson. You can also sign up for general help as needed.  Check your interest areas listed below and someone will follow up with you. Thank you!


COMMITTEES

Audit Committee
  • Review monthly financial statements to be in compliance with state PTA requirements

Advocacy (Chair also needed)
  • (Chair) Identify and coordinate primary advocacy activities for the PTSA with DSA, Durham, and NCPTA
  • (Chair) As a member of the Executive Board, attend meetings and report on the committee’s activities
  • Work with the Chair to advocate for DSA students and families through programs and NCPTA legislative agendas.
Book Fair (Chair)
  • (Chair)Assist LMC with Book Fair organization, advertising, and implementation 
  • Ensure advertising is visible throughout campus
  • Work the set up and take down of the Book Fair
Beautification (Chair)
  • Plan, schedule, recruit, and lead 2-6 workdays/year to include campus clean-up, weeding, planting, and mulching
  • Coordinate with school leadership for tasks, ideas, and scheduling
  • Report to PTSA and manage modest budget as needed
Club Fair (Chair)
    • The Club Fair is an annual event ​that usually happens in September
    • Chair will ​coordinate details of the fair with ​the designated school ​r​epresentative
    • Chair will serve as the ​l​iaison between ​the school and PTSA
    • Will require in-person ​a​ttendance on the evening of the fair

Dine Out Fundraisers:
  • Reach out to local restaurants to schedule fundraising nights
  • Schedule Dine Out Events & Coordinate with School Staff

Fundraising
  • Support Annual Fund
  • Coordinate fundraisers with the Advocacy Committee Chair to support programs
  • Coordinate advertising (posters, robo-calls, social media, web page update, etc.)
Membership
  • Engage and recruit community members
  • Submit membership info to NCPTA.
  • Ensure a PTSA presence at DSA events
PTA School of Excellence
  • Attend meetings of the Excellence Committee 
  • Work to develop and implement action plans
  • Invite interested community members to participate
Staff Appreciation
  • Ensure snacks for monthly Wednesday staff meetings and staff lounges
  • Coordinate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week activities in May
Reflections
  • Assist in coordinating DSA's participation in national PTA arts program by advertising to students and faculty, soliciting submissions for the year's theme, and working with judges to select recipients to represent DSA.
School Improvement Team (SIT) Representative
  • The PTSA selects 2-3 parent reps to this group each year; they meet monthly with a teacher representative.
  • The mission of the Durham School of the Arts School Improvement team (DSASIT) is to disaggregate the data given and recommend ways to improve instructional outcomes for all of our students, improve staff development, and the school climate. Additional goals of DSASIT are to monitor stakeholder satisfaction and advocate for DSA and its unique programs.
Spirit Wear
  • Work to expand PTSA store’s merchandise variety
  • Coordinate advertising (posters, robo calls, web page update, etc.)
  • Coordinate merchandise pickups/delivery
  • Coordinate sales of spirit wear items at school events
Volunteer Support
  • Ensure PTSA events have volunteers through recruitment and coordination with other committees 

Spanish Translation
  • Help translate email, social media, and print communication.

American Sign Language Interpretations
  • Sign for deaf and hard of hearing at PTSA meetings
