In our desire to chalk up the largest number of species of birds seen we tend to expend energy and add to greenhouse gas emissions. Some birders do not find this acceptable as it once was and are finding that, by wildlifing locally and traveling by human-power or public transport we can minimise our contribution to climate change while really coming to know and appreciate the birds and other lives we live with and amongst. Green birding was introduced in the year 2010 bird race. Although this hasn't solved the planet's climate problems it has served to focus those who have taken part on something practical that we can all do to help. It has unveiled a wealth of unsuspectedly good birding on our home patches. GreenBirding therefore invites teams to travel on public transport/their own two feet and see what Chennai and its environs has to offer interested birders. Do indicate under comments (in the registration form) if you would like to be a green birder/green birding team.
