When the Bindover Team raised this issue with the Juvenile Court Judges, they invited GCC representatives
to attend Juvenile Court hearings to observe, learn and gather information. But we cannot do this alone.
We will need to build a team of volunteers from our GCC member congregations if we are to cover
every bindover hearing, as is our objective. The goals are to:
1. Gather information to build the case for the change that is needed.
2. Meet the families of youth facing bindover charges to hear their experiences and invite their.
participation in addressing the injustices in the current system.
So, if you have been wishing “if only I could do something to make a difference,” here’s your
opportunity! The team looking for volunteers willing to commit to attend, listen and document one or two
court hearings month over the next year. No special skills are required, and we will provide training as
well as pair you with an experienced observer for your first hearing (or until you feel comfortable).
We have two in-person training sessions currently scheduled:
Tuesday October 17 at 7 pm at Forest Hill Church, 3031 Monticello Blvd, Cleveland Heights
Wednesday October 18 at 1 pm at Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 2757 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights
