Nassau Zone - Professional Awards Nomination Form
Dear Nassau Zone Member / Physical Education Director,

The Nassau Zone of NYS AHPERD is proud to sponsor the following annual awards to recognize the professional contributions of our colleagues:
  • Elementary Physical Education Teacher Of The Year
  • Middle School Physical Education Teacher Of The Year
  • Secondary Physical Education Teacher Of The Year
  • Adapted Physical Education Teacher Of The Year
  • Health Education Teacher Of The Year
  • Higher Education Teacher Recognition Award
  • Dance Educator Recognition Award
  • Physical Education Director Recognition Award
  • Coaching Recognition Award
  • Nassau Zone Service Award
The Awards Committee recognizes that there are many “unsung heroes” in our profession who make exemplary contributions to our students, schools, and communities.  We need your assistance in identifying and honoring deserving members of our profession.  Your nominee may be a fellow teacher/coach, a member of your staff, a peer in another Nassau County school/university, or any respected professional.

We are now accepting nominations for the 2025-2026 school year.  Nominations must be submitted by October 31 2025.

APPLICATION CRITERIA
  • A Nominee for the Nassau Zone Awards must work in Nassau County and provide the Awards Committee with evidence of outstanding contributions in any of the following categories: teaching or administration, or service to the profession, the schools, and/or the school community.
  • A Nominee should participate actively on district committees that are pro-active in planning innovative and creative learning experiences that are focused on the development of quality programs that reflect the New York State learning standards.
  • A Nominee must be a current member of NYS AHPERD.
  • A Nominee must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in the field of his/her nomination

If you intend to nominate someone, please complete the form questions below.  We will verify the candidate’s NYS AHPERD membership qualifications.  If she/he is eligible, the Awards Committee will contact the nominee directly and request completion of an Award Applicant Form to continue the awards selection process. Award winners will be selected in late Fall.  You will be notified if your nominee has been selected for an award.

The awards presentation is slated for Friday, March 20th, 2026 at the Nassau Zone Conference, hosted at Adelphi University.
