Thank you for your interest in Empower: Building Leaders, Strengthening Communities. The goal of this program is to empower grassroots leaders and foster civic engagement to bring about positive change in the Lowell community. We are seeking community activists and leaders, or potential leaders, who are committed to making Lowell a better place to live in for themselves, their families, and their neighbors. The program is being offered in partnership by Lowell Alliance and Coalition for a Better Acre.
Empower will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and resources to strengthen their capacity to create and lead change at the grassroots level. Participants will also have the opportunity to expand their personal and professional networks and connect with leaders from around the city and region.
Empower workshops will take place over
9 weeks on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 pm, starting on March 25th and ending on May 20th at Coalition for a Better Acre, 2nd fl. Moody Street., Lowell. Additionally, we ask that all participants be willing to take part in a short-term community project chosen by your cohort after the workshops series is over.
Workshop topics will include:
- History of Lowell and the Power of Organizing in Lowell
- Considering and Addressing Race, Power and Privilege
- How City Hall Works and How to Make it Work for You
- Organizing for Change
- Project Planning and Implementation
