One of our SACNAS chapter goals is to inspire the next generation of scientists by encouraging high school students to pursue STEM related areas of study in higher education and beyond. Rather than teaching a lesson on equations and scientific concepts, we are asking volunteers to talk about their "journeys to STEM" to help demystify the ivory tower that UC Davis so often embodies.
The format of this high school outreach opportunity is to provide a ~15 minute guest-speaker presentation in front of a science class at River City High School located in West Sacramento.
The topics to cover broadly fall under the following categories: (1) demonstrating why your science is "cool", (2) explaining how you "do" science, (3) describing who you are as a scientist and as a person, and (4) explaining how you got to where you are today.
The order and content of the presentation is up to your creativity. With this in mind, please answer the following questions.
