What is DevFest?
DevFest has traditionally been defined as a large, multi-track tech event that covers a variety of Google Developer products. Based on the success of Dart Flight School back in February, it’s clear that product-focused events are equally valuable to the community and these events make it easier to get product support. Therefore, we’d like to give you the option to run product-focused events during the DevFest season by expanding the definition of DevFest to include any full-day (5 hours)+ event covering Google developer tech, whether it focuses on one product or has multiple tracks.

This year, DevFest is partnering with The Asia Foundation.  The theme will be “creating mobile applications to help women”, specifically reducing violence against women. 10 teams (maximum 4 people per team) with diversity of coders, women and subject matter experts will be selected to compete their mobile app ideas in the event. DevFest will be held from 28th to 29th of October, 2016 at Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Center (CKCC).

Areas of Focus:
Choose one of the following areas of focus for mobile app development.

Women’s Safety and Security: Apps that can help women to feel safe and secure at any time. Safety features can be added to the existing app, for example a taxi app to include women’s safety.

Reduction of Alcohol Abuse and violence against women. You are encouraged to think of an initiative/app that can provoke online discussions about the importance of adopting a national law on alcohol control (advertising, sales, consumption). Also, the negative impacts of alcohol on IPV/VAW should be discussed.

Reduction of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)/VAW) content on the Media, particularly TV broadcasters. You could consider an initiative or app that can provoke online discussions about the issue, which will get the attention of policy makers as well as TV broadcasters.
