AwardThe LongHouse Scholarship Award is $3,000.
EligibilityApplicant must be a high school senior, and have either submitted to the LongHouse Student Annual at least once in grades 9-11 or interned at LongHouse during those same high school years.
ScholarshipsIf you would like to submit to both the LongHouse Scholarship Award AND the Dianne B. Bernhard and LongHouse Scholarship for Excellence in Pastels, you can do both and you have the potential to win both awards. Follow the instructions below and be sure to include your best pastel inspired by your visit to LongHouse. (Please make sure you mark the pastel on your image list as the work to be considered)

PORTFOLIO The portfolio should include a minimum of 6 images submitted and no more than 10. Work must have been completed within the past two years and be inspired by the mission of LongHouse. Images should be formatted in jpg and be no larger than 8MB. Each jpg file should contain the artist's name, title and medium of each piece. An image list must accompany the images itemized in viewing order, the title of each piece (if any), media, dimensions and year completed. Portfolio artwork may include drawings, paintings, ceramics, photography, digital works, printmaking, sculptures, mixed media or work pertaining to horticulture, landscape and design. Please do not submit slideshows or Power Point presentations. Do not embed your images into a Word document. Images should be submitted via WeTransfer, (www.wetransfer.com and follow prompts, and share with email@example.com).
PORTFOLIO – PERFORMANCE ARTS (including vocals, instrumentals or dance in any genre, as well as any other area of performance art) A performance portfolio should include a minimum of 3 videos and no more than 6. Videos will be accepted in QuickTime (preferred), AVI, FLV, MP4, or WMV format. Video files should be no longer than two minutes in length, and the size of your video uploads is limited to 64 MB. If you upload a video that is longer than two minutes, it will automatically time out at two minutes. Videos can be uploaded via WeTransfer (www.wetransfer.com) shared with Selena@longhouse.org. One may also submit videos through links to personal site or YouTube. Each video must have its own link which should be titled, dated and contain a brief description.
PORTFOLIO - COMBINATIONOne can submit combining both stills and video. A minimum of 6 images, no more than 10 plus 3 videos, no more than 5, will be accepted formatted as specified above. Work must have been completed within the past two years and must be inspired by the mission of LongHouse.
PORTFOLIO IMAGE LISTPlease include name of each piece, dimensions and materials used (eg pastel on paper, charcoal, acrylic on canvas, etc).
ARTIST'S STATEMENTThe statement should be no more than one page in length, double-spaced. Within your artist statement be sure to include how LongHouse and/or Jack Lenor Larsen’s work or philosophy has inspired you. For your consideration, you may choose to discuss how the pieces selected for inclusion in your portfolio represent you as an artist? What are the sources of your artistic inspiration, whether other artists, works of art, the natural world, human events? What role will art making play in your life as you continue in your career and/or academic pursuits after high school? Most importantly, give a sense of who you are. Be sure to include your name and contact information at the top of your statement.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT - FOR PASTEL SCHOLARSHIP ONLY or APPLYING FOR BOTHThe statement should be one page in length, double-spaced. Withing your artist's statement be sure to include both why pastels mean so much to you and how LongHouse and/or Jack Lenor Larsen's work or philosophy has inspired you. For your consideration, you may choose to discuss how the pieces selected for inclusion in your portfolio represent you as an artist. What are the sources of your artistic inspiration, whether other artists, works of art, the natural world, human events? What role will art making play in your life as you continue in your career and/or academic pursuits after high school? Most importantly, give a sense of who you are. Be sure to include your name and contact information at the top of your statement.
LETTER OF RECOMMENDATIONSubmit (2) two letters of recommendation. One must be from a current/past instructor. The second letter may be from an instructor or a mentor or guidance counselor familiar with the applicant's artistic vision and/or future goals and aspirations. Letters of recommendation may be emailed as an attachment by either the writer of the recommendation or guidance counselor to firstname.lastname@example.org. (Subject line should read: applicant's last name, first name and then, Recommendation). Applicant may not submit their letters of recommendation.
DEADLINEThe application form and necessary support materials (portfolio and letters of recommendations) must be received no later than Friday, April 5, 2019. Application may be submitted on-line; support materials must be received by deadline date via WeTransfer shared with Selena@longhouse.org or by e-mail.
FINALISTSFinalists will be notified by phone and/or e-mail no later than April 16, 2019.
AWARDSWinners will be notified by phone and e-mail no later than Thursday, May 30, 2019. The LongHouse Scholarship Award will be presented at student’s high school as part of their senior awards ceremonies. We request our award winners to be present at our LongHouse Gala on Saturday, July 20, 2019 in recognition and support of our education programs.
