Gold Shirt Responsibilities
Most often a Gold Shirt will be assigned to a team (8-12 teens) in Teen Staff. It will be their job to take roll and keep tabs on their team as well as "float" or "roam" among the group and encourage positive interaction between teammates. Gold Shirts need to be attentive to the dynamics of their group as they accompany their teams through the various workshops, activities, and service jobs. People skills and good judgment are a must as it may be necessary to "tactfully redirect" individual team members from certain jobs or behaviors and to give recommendations to TSP directors regarding team adjustments. In addition, there are a few specialty positions that a Gold Shirt can be asked to fill; such as, Activity Assistant, MC, Photographer, etc.depending on our need for this year.
ALL GOLD SHIRTS MUST HAVE A CELL PHONE and it must be capable of receiving text messages.
Time Commitment (Mandatory)*
Thursday of the event: 2:00pm - 7:00pm, Gold Shirt Training and Pizza Party
Friday and Saturday of the event: 8:00am - 6:30pm, Teen Staff In Session
Saturday Evening: 6:30pm - 8:00pm, Pack up
*Subject to minor modifications
In exchange for taking on additional time commitments and responsibilities, our Gold Shirts are given a few additional perks. In 2020 these perks include: honor and prestige, a beautiful "gold" t-shirt, a Thursday Evening Pizza Party, and Lunch Friday and Saturday. Also for 2020: every family with an approved Gold Shirt will get a convention discount.
Please Note: There are a limited number of Gold Shirt positions and we cannot accommodate everyone. Preference will be given to those 18 or older who have had experience in the Teen Staff Program. Applicants will be contacted with their acceptance status. If accepted, applicants must submit to a criminal background check and review the THSC Child Protection Training (a Power Point Presentation).
One more note of change: When registering, Gold Shirt Applicants do not need to register as Teen Staff but they do need to be included in the list of children (regardless of age) in the Family Package. If you are not approved to serve, then you will be allowed to register for Teen Staff even if the deadline has passed.
