I'm expressing my support for Comprehensive Plan Amendment PA-2023-00009 regarding the AT&T site. I believe this project presents a valuable opportunity to enhance our community, creating a place where people can connect, where local businesses can thrive, where people can call home, and where Oakton can continue evolving in a positive way.

This amendment offers the chance to revitalize Oakton by addressing several key areas. There are so many important aspects of this plan, but what stands out to me most is... (click all that apply)

Expanding Housing Opportunities: I believe Oakton needs more diverse housing options to accommodate residents at different stages of life. This plan's mix of for-sale and rental homes will make it easier for young professionals, families, and essential workers (like teachers, nurses, and first responders) to live in the community they serve.

Creating a More Vibrant Community Hub: I'm excited about the potential for new retail spaces, including a neighborhood grocery store, coffee shops, and local restaurants with indoor and outdoor dining options. These amenities would create a much-needed sense of place and provide gathering spots for neighbors.

Parks and Green spaces for the Community: The proposed parks and green spaces, including a central plaza, dog park, and children's play areas, are essential for Oakton. We need more places for families to connect and enjoy the outdoors.

Enhance Transportation and Walkability: This amendment offers crucial improvements to our transportation infrastructure, including addressing the long-standing traffic congestion on Chain Bridge and Jermantown Roads through a proposed street grid and traffic pattern redesign. Furthermore, it prioritizes pedestrian and bicycle safety by adding new sidewalks, trails, and safer crossings, creating a more walkable and bikeable community. The addition of a traffic signal near Oakton Elementary is a vital safety improvement, especially for our children.

Focus on Sustainability: I appreciate the project's emphasis on modern stormwater management and environmentally friendly design, which will benefit Oakton for years to come.
