Veterans & Community Retreat New Orleans
With support from Bastion, Warrior Writers will kick off its New Orleans chapter by hosting a Veterans and Community Retreat. We invite veterans, active-duty service-members, caregivers/care partners, family members, artists, allies and healers for a weekend of creativity and care. The conference will feature writing and art-making workshops, wellness sessions, seminars on how to build healthy relationships between vets and allies, facilitator’s training and discussion panels exploring local support for veterans. We are excited to feature a reading by veterans on Saturday evening as well as a reading of Lilac and Liquor (a play written by veteran Jeff Key) on Sunday evening. Our overall goal is to create space and community for veterans and their allies to connect, be creative and build a foundation for collaboration. Most activities will take place at the Contemporary Arts Center. We are not housing any participants, this event is focused on local veterans. Our general schedule is Friday: 6-8pm; Saturday: 11am-9pm; Sunday: 10:30am-9pm.
