The Blue Trees Are Coming!
Pease Park Conservancy is excited to be working with Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) and the Art in Public Places loan program of the City of Austin to bring The Blue Trees by Konstantin Dimopoulos to Kingsbury Commons in Spring 2021 as part of the grand reopening of the southern end of the park.
Our hope is that once you know more about The Blue Trees, you’ll be as excited as we are!
The Blue Trees is an art installation that highlights ecological issues, while also transforming the environment and trees into a magical piece of art that people experience. In The Blue Trees, the color and the trees come together to transform and affect each other; the color changing the trees into something surreal, something out of this world. While the trees, rooted in this earth reflect what we may lose.
The Blue Trees will involve the community – with a community-led installation over two weekends, including a family day event, plus ongoing educational opportunities.
The installation will occur in the Spring of 2021 and be a component of the Grand Reopening of Kingsbury Commons following completion of its current capital improvement project. The exact tree selection will be made at a later date, but is likely to focus around Kingsbury’s “Big Field”, along the eastern trail and the triangle where the east & west trails converge.
The installation itself does not require maintenance and the blue colorant is a natural pigment that fades over time, and is not harmful to trees, people, or the surrounding area.
