LACMA Mobile Programs Virtual Visit Application (2023-2024)
LACMA's Mobile Program offers virtual workshops for 6th and 7th grade history and social studies classrooms. During these two-day virtual visits, educators lead students in close-looking sessions with innovative 3D models of real objects in LACMA’s collection, followed by art-making sessions.

This application is designed to register one teacher (and their respective classes) at a time. If other teachers at your school are interested in our virtual programming, please have them fill out this form as well. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and you will only be contacted by a member of the LACMA Mobile Programs team if your classes are accepted; this process might take several weeks after you apply.

If you have any questions about this process please email Polly Dela Rosa, Content Specialist of Mobile Programs, at pdelarosa@lacma.org.

About LACMA Mobile Program's Virtual Visits
We offer the following virtual programs:
  • Animal Symbols in Early World Cultures for 6th Grade classes
  • Journey into the Ancestral Americas for 7th Grade classes
Our Virtual Visits are held through Zoom and utilize the platform Mentimeter to receive and aggregate student engagement via polls and written responses.

To ensure a smooth virtual visit, the following technological set-up is preferred:
  • Students should have their own device (Chromebook, iPad, etc.) to respond to prompts on Mentimeter or participate in the Zoom room.
  • Students should also have their own headphones to decrease audio echo/feedback if responding through the mic.
We can also accommodate for classes which only have a single/central camera pointed at all students, and/or a single/central mic. Should you choose this option, we will require teacher support in repeating the prompts and questions asked by LACMA educators, taking or repeating responses from students, and having students come up to the camera and mic to share their artwork.
Animal Symbols in Early World Cultures (6th Grade)
In this virtual program, classes will participate in one or both of the following components:
  • Virtual Object Handling: Students will discuss their favorite animals and make personal connections to animal symbols found in cultures such as Early Egypt, Greece, India, and China. They will have the chance to observe and analyze 3D models of objects from LACMA's collections.
  • Art Project: LACMA educators will lead an art project in which students will create their own mythical creatures composed of different animal parts. The only materials needed are pen/pencil and paper.

Journey into the Ancestral Americas (7th Grade)
In this virtual program, classes will participate in one or both of the following components:
  • Virtual Object Handling: Students will discuss their favorite foods and make personal connections to Indigenous crops and foodways of North, South, and Central America. They will have the chance to observe and analyze 3D models of objects from LACMA's Art of the Americas collections.
  • Art Project: LACMA educators will lead an art project in which students will learn about Maya glyphs and decorate a vase/vessel template with Maya glyph combinations. The only materials needed are pen/pencil and paper, but we also offer a drawing template that can be printed for each student.
