We Write the Songs 2020 Registration
We Write the Songs (WWTS) is a 6-week workshop designed for students ages 12 -18 in efforts to equip them with the tools necessary to strengthen their songwriting skills. This workshop explores songwriting techniques, basic music theory, and encourages students to express themselves through music. We Write the Songs intends to enlarge the student’s creative writing process, opening their minds to go beyond the surface of songwriting, and having the ability to dissect and interpret lyrics and melodies.

WWTS also intends to focus on the process of artist development. Students will be instructed on how to distribute their music, promote their work, protect their creations, and create their brand as an independent artist. This program will invite guest speakers who will teach master classes catered to the task and objective of the specific WWTS session.

This year the sessions are split into 5 subjects. These subjects will involve improvisation and branding. Building and publishing a song comes with so many layers like songwriting, production, engineering, and distribution. These sessions will allow students to identify where they feel most effective.

Students will also tap into DIY audio engineering, using platforms like Soundtrap and Logic to create and produce songs in the comfort of your own home. Collaboration is also a big part of WWTS. Students will listen to guest speakers and learn how to collaborate effectively with a group of people, how to handle criticism, and building confidence to share ideas in front of others.
