IFCB Naming Contest
The Alaska Ocean Observing System supports two Imaging Flow Cytobots (IFCBs) for use by the Alaska Harmful Algal Bloom Network to monitor for HABs in the state of Alaska. These IFCBs are automated microscopes that take water samples and produce real time images of individual phytoplankton, which can then be used to detect harmful species, such as Alexandrium, Pseudo-nitzschia, and Dinophysis. Data collected by the IFCBs are used for research projects and to alert communities around the state of potential blooms. Click here to read more about IFCBs and how they work.

IFCBs will be deployed on various ships this upcoming summer and it's time we gave them names so we can follow their journeys!

Submit your ideas below - you can submit this form as many times as you'd like. If you want to provide your name and location (city and state), we will give you credit if your suggestion is chosen!
