This Michaelmas we're trying something new: we're opening up the process for making paper speeches in our Friday-night debates, and introducing new Emergency Debates before the main motions.
Paper speeches are given by all our celebrity speakers who are visiting Durham, and (as the name implies) they will have written theirs and have it printed, or on a laptop or tablet, ready before the event. Everyone giving a paper speech will be invited to a fully-paid-for three-course dinner before the event at the Marco Pierre White restaurant at the Hotel Indigo, Durham. They will also be invited to the drinks reception in the Reading Room in 24s after the event. These opportunities provide an unparalleled opportunity to network and chat to our high-profile guests, and give you the opportunity to wow the Chamber with your public speaking skills (and maybe make them laugh too).
You can still make floor speeches without applying - these are available to any member who gets up and volunteers after all the paper speeches have been given!
Please apply at least a week in advance of the debate happening, as I will be choosing the Saturday before a debate and removing the option from this form.
