Agassiz PTO Committees- 2018/19 Open Positions
The following PTO committees have open positions for committee heads, or support persons/committee members. Please review each committee description and select which positions you might be interested in. The PTO chairs will fill in the positions based on responses and put together a list of committees in the coming weeks. Back to School Picnic: Coordinate back to school picnic, organize volunteers for set up, clean up, shopping, grilling, etc. BBQ food (paid for by FOA). Usually held in mid-August before school starts. This committee would be coordinating next years picnic in August 2019
Popcorn Fridays: This committee head is established (Jenn Alan/Melissa Honaker/Kim Beck). Volunteers and committee members needed to pop popcorn, and deliver popcorn on Friday mornings @Agassiz.
Halloween Extravaganza: This committee has a current committee head (Jenn Alan/Patti Lenkov) but may need a new one next year. Coordinate donations for event, staff activities with volunteers (pumpkin decorating, cake walk, face painting, carnival games, halloween parade,haunted house). Coordinate setup and cleanup. October 20th, 2018 12-2pm @ Agassiz
Moms Night Out/Dads Night Out: Coordinate events outside of school and in the community for Agassiz Moms, or Agassiz Dads to get together to socialize.
Winterland Wishes: Coordinate winter event that focuses on giving back. Responsibilities include locating a charity to collect donations for, coordinate vendors, breakfast, crafts for kids, bake sale, etc.
Project Linus or other All School Charity Event: Coordinate charity event before winter break that all classrooms can actively participate in at school. Historically this has been making fleece blankets for children's hospitals. Another charity might be explored. A committee head has been assigned, Brooke Ward, but committee members are needed. December 21, 2018 @ Agassiz.
Parent/Teacher nights out: This historically has been a bowling activity, but other activities can be explored like karaoke night, trivia night, etc. Committee head and members would secure location, coordinate setp/clean up, etc.
Movie Night: Coordinate movie night at Agassiz in the gym. Organize volunteers to take tickets, pop popcorn, sell refreshments, setup and cleanup. Committee head is Patti Lenkov. This event is usually held in March.
Process Fair: The school will hold 3 process/inquiry fairs where classes will display interdisciplinary work for parents to view in the halls and classrooms. Parents will be invited to a breakfast that this committee will host, as well as help advertise the event.
Book fairs: This committee would help to coordinate one book fair offsite in the winter, and will work with the Agassiz librarian to coordinate a 2nd book fair at Agassiz in the spring during parent teacher conferences.
PE Committee: This committee would work with Mr. Oni to coordinate Agassiz Field Day (June 7th) and the Agassiz Athletics Awards Banquet(2nd week of June).
Teacher Appreciation Week: This committee will work to plan events and activities to show our appreciation to Agassiz teachers and staff. This committee has a head already, Ali McGannon. Teacher Appreciation Week is the week of May 6th.
Tuesday Folders: Coordinate volunteers to stuff tuesday folder every tuesday morning for all classrooms, and communicate with administration and teachers regarding any concerns or coordination. The committee head is Melissa Honaker.
School Yearbook: Agassiz has not historically had a school yearbook. This committee would need to do some researching of vendors, pricing plans, and logistics.
School Newspaper: Coordinate a school newspaper working with students to write articles, document school events with photos, etc. Need someone who is able to work with students during the day or directly after school.
School Beautification: Coordinate activities around school improvement and beautification like planting flowers, painting, decorating, etc.
Class trip committee: Research opportunities for class trips for upper grades. Agassiz currently works with a vendor for a 7/8th grade class trip to DC every other year. Explore options for other planned trips like Springfield, IL, or overnight class retreats.
8th grade graduation: Coordinate activities around 8th grade graduation including a luncheon, graduation ceremony, awards assembly, etc. Recruit volunteers, vendors, etc.
School Dances: Work with student council around planning school dances for middle school. Help recruit volunteers to decorate, chaperone, setup, cleanup, and refreshments.
Spirit Wear: Work with school staff and vendor to coordinate spirit wear ordering, and distributing. Explore options to increase times of year that spirit wear is sold, and what items are available.
Box Tops: Organize collection of "box tops" from Agassiz community. Coordinate volunteers to collect, cut, and mail in box tops for incentives for the school.
Cubs Family Night/Day Out: Work with Cubs contact (through Mr. Oni) to coordinate a family day at a cubs game. Help coordinate selling and distributing a block of tickets to Agassiz families. Coordinate meeting at a nearby restaurant before or after the game for all in attendance.
