Parent Volunteer Form
Parent volunteers form a great part of life at Kerem. This includes both volunteering in school as well as on school trips, which afford children opportunities which might be outside their usual experiences. We are pleased that you have come forward as a volunteer helper: you will have an important role to play in the success and safety of the work that we are doing.

Please read and sign the document if you would like to volunteer during this year.  This document is used as part of our school’s risk assessment planning.

Role of the Volunteer Helper
To be responsible and look after, in conjunction with school staff, all of the children that you come into contact with.
To carry out the role that the member of staff has given you.
To stay with your allocated staff member / group of children, ensuring that their wellbeing and safety is maintained for the total duration of the school trip or activity.  On a trip, this includes road safety. Please always follow the lead teacher to help the children cross the road safely. Please wait for a green man or for an adult to stop the traffic.
To promote polite, respectful and courteous behaviour towards each other and members of the general public. We should all act as ambassadors of our school.
To ensure that the group you are with keep up with the body of the school visit party, be it walking, entering or exiting from transportation or following speakers for the trip.
To contact the class teacher / school member of staff if there are issues with first aid, safety and / or behaviour.

Working alongside school staff
School staff expect volunteer helpers to:
Comply with all of the above whilst being under the direct line management of school staff.
Show commitment to their group, an interest in the focus of the visit and assist children in their learning by helping them to read signs / labels/ information, asking questions that encourage children to think.
Follow guidance from the school staff.

What is not permitted?
Volunteer helpers are not permitted to:

Bring additional siblings to school or on the school trip
Re-organise groups - they will have been chosen by the teacher for very specific reasons
Take photographs of children using a personal device either in school or off site
Visit a refreshment outlet without prior arrangement with a member of school staff
Give / buy their group treats e.g. ice-creams, biscuits, sweets – before or during the school trip (including your own child)
Communicate with parents, who are not in school or on the trip, during the trip
Use a mobile phone for personal reasons as this will detract from the group you are supervising (we appreciate that you are Volunteering your time and that people have busy lives - if you think you will need to take/make an important call during the day please discuss this with the lead teacher).

First Aid
For each class on the school visit the class teacher will take a First Aid kit. If possible a qualified first aider will attend the trip but this is not a statutory requirement. You will be informed if any child in your group has medication / needs. If medication needs to be administered, this will be done by a trained member of staff. All first aid box(es) will be carried by staff. You may be asked to hold specific medication e.g. an asthma pump or epipen. The class teacher will show you how/when to administer these. Should someone in your group require medical attention, please contact the lead teacher as soon as possible.

Emergencies
You will be given the number of the school mobile phone on the morning of the trip. Should there be an emergency, please contact the lead teacher on that. If you are unable to get through, please call the main school number 020 8455 0909

Confidentiality
As a volunteer at Kerem School, you might be privy to situations relating to specific children which should remain confidential. This might include another child not following the rules, having a toileting accident, or general poor behaviour. Please understand that these matters are confidential and not to be shared or discussed with any parents, including the parents of the pupil concerned. If you have any concerns about anything that happens during the day, you should initially raise them with the class teacher or Mrs Fisher, Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for pastoral care and school safeguarding lead.

Agreement
I have read the Parent Volunteer agreement and I agree to the terms and conditions as stated in the agreement.  I will support the young people either in school or enjoying the trip and will actively contribute to the smooth running of the occasion. I fully understand that failure to adhere to this agreement will potentially prevent me from carrying out my volunteering role or attending any future trips.
