PPHP's Emerging Leaders Council Application
Mission of the Emerging Leaders Council
To act as ambassadors of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) to engage young people as patients, advocates, and donors.
The Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic (PPHP) Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) is a diverse group of young people dedicated to the mission of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic and to the empowerment of all young people through advocacy, education and outreach. The members of the ELC bring unique perspectives and insight to the ways in which PPHP services young people in their health centers and in their communities. Each accepted ELC member agrees to serve a one-year term with the opportunity to extend. Membership is accepted on a rolling basis.
Preferred Qualifications
● Familiarity with Planned Parenthood: Individuals must be aligned with the PPHP mission and core values. Preference is given to individuals who have volunteer, advocacy, patient services, or personal experience with Planned Parenthood.

● Residency: Candidates must reside, work in, or attend school in one of PPHP’s four counties: Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Suffolk.

● Age Range: 20s through early to mid 30s preferred.

● Meetings: In addition to twice yearly retreats, ELC members will be expected to attend in person meetings/trainings every six weeks, and additional calls as needed.

● Active in their community: Members must demonstrate interest in their communities. This could include working or volunteering within their school, religious institutions, community organizations, or local Planned Parenthood.

● Fundraising: Members will be expected to participate in fundraising activities such as attending fundraisers, making a modest donation, and recruiting new donors. Prior fundraising experience is welcomed but not required.

If you have knowledge of any of the following, or are eager to learn about any of the following, then the ELC is a good fit for you!
Sex Education
● Knowledge of comprehensive reproductive and sexual health
● Familiarity with New York State (NYS) policy regarding sexuality education in schools
● Basic Knowledge of NYS laws related to reproductive health
● How education and policy impacts real people’s lives

● Familiarity with NYS and federal government structure
● Follow current events pertaining to reproductive health on a local or national level
● Passion for promoting reproductive rights and social justice

● Experience using social media platforms in a professional or educational manner
● Public speaking experience
● A basic understanding of marketing and branding
● Using your identity to reach others in creative ways

● Experience with fundraising on a professional or volunteer level including solicitation, event organization and/or donor cultivation
● Strong communication skills both written and oral
● Ability to work well under pressure
