Who is this course for?
• People with health and safety responsibilities in voluntary sector organisations
• Staff and volunteers of community groups

Course aim:
Participants will learn who is responsible for health & safety at work and for creating a safe working environment. Learners will have improved awareness of their rights and how to enforce those rights. The course aims to equip learners with the basic knowledge necessary to take on health and safety responsibilities and play a part in making workplaces safer.

The session will cover:
• Health and Safety at Work Act
• The Management of Health and safety at Work Regulations
• COSHH – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
• Manual Handling Regulations
• Planning for risk assessment

Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session participants will be able to: -

• Describe the main health and safety legislation
• Plan for risk assessment
• Identify key responsibilities for making workplaces healthy and safe
• Apply their improved knowledge of the right to work safely in their job
• Take on health and safety responsibilities for a community group

This training session will be run by The London Hazards Centre, a registered charity established in 1984 to provide training, advice - and to campaign, on occupational health and safety. http://www.lhc.org.uk/
